The “Directive on the application of patients’ rights in cross-border health care” was adopted to facilitate access to safe and high-quality cross-border healthcare and to promote cooperation between Member States on healthcare. The Directive respects the freedom of Member States on types and delivery of healthcare and choices on healthcare systems.
